Entertainment Zones (EZ) are designated areas in San Francisco where people can purchase to-go drinks from local bars and restaurants and enjoy them outside in common spaces like plazas, sidewalks, and streets during certain hours. What is the Mid-Market Entertainment Zone?

The Entertainment Zone located along Market Street between 5th & 6th Streets, will allow visitors who are 21 years of age or older to purchase “to-go” alcoholic beverages from participating businesses to enjoy within the EZ during designated events.

Location

The EZ is located on Market Street and spans from 5th Street to 6th Street. Signage is posted on-site to guide you to EZ entry points.

Do I need to be 21+ to enter the EZ?
No, the EZ is open to attendees of all ages, and families are welcome to enjoy the events and activities together. However, if you’re 21+ and plan to consume alcoholic beverages, you’ll need to follow a few steps. First, purchase your beverage from an EZ retailer, where you’ll receive a compostable cup and a wristband verifying your age. This wristband allows you to bring your drink into the EZ and enjoy it within the designated boundaries.

Can I bring my own food or drink?
Outside food and drinks are not permitted. Participating businesses in the EZ offer a variety of food and beverage options.

What types of activities can I expect?
Event activities vary but often include live music, games, photo opportunities, and more.

Can I take alcoholic beverages outside the EZ?
No, all alcoholic drinks must be consumed within the EZ. Clear signage at each exit will remind patrons not to take beverages beyond the designated area.

Can I purchase a beverage from one retail space and drink it in another retail space?
No, beverages purchased in one location are to be enjoyed only in the EZ or location you purchased it.

Can I drink outside the Entertainment Zone?
No, drinking outside the EZ boundaries is not permitted. Signs around the perimeter will remind you: “No Alcohol Beyond This Point.”

Will Market Street be closed?
Market Street will remain open to public transit and commercial vehicles during entertainment zone events. Thankfully, Market Street offers wide sidewalks with plenty of room to experience events on both sides of the street.
